Janice worked at a college and made some half-memories work, which doesn't surmise any high posts. Some time back she began working for her better half (to enable their business to create) and here she was unable to confront any sex related persecution or even any huge rivalry. Physical Conditions Any fear that is based on a legitimate medical concern is, by definition, not a phobia. Many apparent cases of escalaphobia actually fall into this category. Medical vertigo, balance difficulties, a lack of depth perception, vision troubles and sensory issues make many people reluctant to use an escalator. For this reason, it is always important to see a doctor to rule out any physical causes of a possible escalator phobia. Phobias Related to Escalaphobia The fear of escalators is often, though not always, related to another phobia. Bathmophobia, or the fear of stairs and slopes, often encompasses escalators as well. Bathmophobia sufferers are afraid of simply being in the presence of a slope or a set of stairs, even if they are not expected to climb or descend. The constantly moving metal steps of an escalator could be even more terrifying. Climacophobia, or the fear of climbing, may also be to blame. Those with climacophobia are perfectly comfortable being around stairs and slopes but become fearful when expected to actually use them. Acrophobia, the fear of heights, and illyngophobia, the fear of vertigo, are also possible culprits. Negative Experiences with Escalators Many phobias are triggered by previous negative experiences with the feared object. If you ever caught a shoelace in an escalator, slipped while getting on or off, or lost your balance when the steps and the handrails were mistimed, you might be at increased risk for developing an escalator phobia. The negative experience need not have happened to you. If you witnessed a fall in person or even on TV, or if a parent or close relative had the same fear, you might also be more likely to develop escalaphobia. Escalator Myths Debunked Big, heavy machines are a mystery to many people. Escalators are generally located right out in the open, where it seems that all the moving parts are visible. Yet the escalators movement does not seem to make sense at first glance. Numerous myths have developed over more than a century of use, many of which make escalators seem more dangerous than they are. According to the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation, some people believe that escalators move more quickly than normal walking speed, contain parts that can reach out and grab people, or even that the steps could somehow flatten out and send the riders flying. The Foundation assures readers that none of these myths are true, yet legends persist. Adding to the confusion is the fact that it is entirely possible to be injured on an escalator. Popular urban legend website Snopes.com verified dozens of incidents in which childrens shoes got stuck in moving parts of an escalator, leading to serious injuries. Escalator Safety Like any machine, it is possible for an escalator to malfunction. No activity, including riding an escalator, is entirely risk-free. However, the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation maintains a list of safety rules that, when properly followed, minimize the potential risks to nearly zero. The rules include always facing forward and using the handrail, supervising small children, wearing securely attached footwear, and not transporting rolling carts or strollers on escalators. For many people, simply familiarizing themselves with escalator safety procedures is enough to combat the fear. Learn how escalators work, how best to prevent accidents, and what to do should an emergency occur. Be sure to teach your children how to safely use escalators as well. Seeking Treatment for Escalaphobia If your escalator phobia is severe, consider seeking professional assistance. Although elevators and stairs are reasonable alternatives, there is no guarantee that these items will be available everywhere you go. Rather than limiting your movements, consider beating the fear altogether. Like most phobias, escalaphobia generally responds well to a variety of brief therapy treatments. One of the most popular is cognitive-behavioral therapy, in which you will learn to replace your fearful thoughts about escalators with healthier messages. Battling a phobia is hard work, but the rewards are extremely worthwhile.

Research Paper Websites vs Facebook

The first thing that comes in your mind after you hear the word ‘research paper websites’ would definitely be something grey, something unattractive and devoid of any pleasing graphic content. And very rightly the image would be painted in your mind, for the research paper websites are the unlucky damsels who get all the brainy dudes but no prince charming as a visitor. But leaving out Facebook? That is like imprisoning you, or even worse. It sounds totally unthinkable and just when you are about to fall on your head with the idea of life without Facebook until you get done with your research paper; let us help you with the reasons as to why it is important: 1. You Would Get Actual Help on the Research Paper Websites They are like the shoes which would be brown or black but would be totally worth each penny your mom spent on them (because you were squealing for the bright pink ones) and would help you in rain and sunshine, efficiently. The pink shiny ones are the favorite social media site Facebook where you invest a lot of resources (time, energy, food, positivity etc) but that won’t be of any help in times of need. Instead of surrounding yourself with unnecessary news feeds about someone’s crappy holiday and someone else’s exotic baby crib, you would get real work done on research paper websites. 2. You’ll Eventually Produce Your Writing Assignments The good thing about these sites being boring and wordy are that you don’t get distracted by things which you shouldn’t be concerned with (at least not while working on your assignments). This way, you end up completing your assignments and submitting them on time, saving yourself from getting expelled in the process – all because you did not have Facebook as a companion to take you out for a walk down the memory lane (and the current life) of your 500+ friends. 3. You’ll Improve Your Writing Skills While you spend days after days on Facebook grooming your skills to post better content by the way (which of course, you haven’t written) and mindlessly sharing news and pictures; on research paper websites you actually get the chance to improve your writing skills with reading, writing and rewriting your assignment pages. 4. You’ll Become a Problem Solver Since you are accustomed to working with pressing deadlines (when you start to work on your dissertation only a month before the deadline) you would be well aware of how to handle pressure and how to manage stressful and difficult situations. But with the research paper websites you would end up getting on a turbo engine to save your score and getting done with the work on time. On Facebook, however, you’d be able to do nothing but procrastinate and end up regretting the moments wasted. 5. You’ll Learn to Manage Your Time If you have tasted the bitterness of a late submission and the eleventh hour stress of looming deadlines, you would hang on close to the research paper websites and would add them to your favorites so you would be reminded of the mishaps, refraining you from repeating them. With Facebook, well what can we say about how Facebook would lure you into its same old embrace you found hard to get away from. 6. You’d Become Successful In order to gain success you would have to focus on your career as the most important thing in your life. The research paper websites would help you with just that, in any way they could. Well on Facebook, the only success you will ever have is the number of likes or comments that you get on a post (or those other reactions that Facebook uses for advertising purposes). But who needs the validation of likes and comments when you have a promising career, eh? Once you taste success, there’s no going back to your philandering ways with Facebook, you’d show complete fidelity with research paper websites.

CHAPTER FIVE 5.0 ANALYSIS OF FINDINGS INTRODUCTION: This thesis aims to analyse gender inequality in the political system. Democracyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ rule by the peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ should embrace all segments of society. One instrument for the authorisation of women within the government could be a quota system, other than the aforementioned cultural, economic and social and historical reasons, female participation additionally depends on the voting system. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Gender inequality in the political system" essay for you Create order MEASURING GENDER INEQUALITY To evaluate inequality, the United Nations Expansion Programme developed two indicators: the Gender-related Development Index (GDI) and also the Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM). The GDI measures (the same as the Human Development Index, HDI) anticipation, knowledge and also the standard of life. The indicators are: (1) the life expectancy at birth; (2) the mature literacy tempo and the amalgamation of the gross enrolment ratio for primary, secondary and tertiary schools;and (3) the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in purchasing power parity (PPP). The GDI was developed in 1995 and measures women and men one by one to point out the variations in status between the genders. The result may be a figure between zero and one; the proper score of 1 (equal conditions) has not however been reached by any country in the world . The Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM) has the subsequent indicators: (1) Seats in parliament controlled by wo men; (2) female legislators, high-ranked officers and managers; and (3) female that are skilled and technical workers. The dimension is between zero and one, with 1 further being the proper as-yet unapproachable score. Only six European countries have a GEM of more than 0.8. This result shows the extent of the matter in empowering women. 5.1 RESEACH QUESTION 1 WHY IS GENDER EQUALITY NEEDED IN POLITICS First, the Universal Human Rights Declaration of 1948 (HRD) states in Article 2, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Everyone is entitled to all or any of the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, with no distinction of any kind, like race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or any different opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or any other different standingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ Equal dignity, rights, power, and potentialities for people at large are written down in several international declarations, conventions and treaties. Conjointly countless national constitutions necessitate equality and particularly gender equality. Every citizen of a liberal democracy ought to have human rights; just like the right to freedom of opinion and expression (Art. 19 HRD), having the right of peaceful assembly and association (Art. 20 HRD), and also the right to require or take part in the government of his or her nation, forthrightly or through openly chosen spokesperson (Art. 21 HRD). Human rights just like the right to work, the right to free alternative to employment, the right to equal pay for equal work (Art. 23 HRD) and also the right to education (Art. 26 HRD) are vital necessities of society and pertain directly to the problems of gender equality. Democracy is outlined or translated from the greek as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rule by the populace.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ A sincere interpretation of democracy is that it ought to be inclusive, democratic, representative, accountable and transparent. But however, will we have a tendency to describe a nation as democratic if women donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t participate to the maximum as men? However, can it be called representative if women are 50 percent of the population but only 15.7 percent of the members of parliament within the world average (single house, lower house, upper house and senate)? Not only the input-designation of diplomacy and democracy and also the internationally recognised human rights represents reasons for additional gender equality, conjointly, the output-orientation of politics is showing reasons for additional gender equality. Numerous reports state that redoubled womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s participation can have a powerful influence on policy results. Several scientists made a case that women are typically more trustworthy and unselfish than men. A better female participation would promote a more peaceful government. A policy analysis report of the World Bank asks, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Are females really the open-minded Sex? Deception and Women in Gov ernment.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ This report from 1999 concluded: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“We notice that at the country level, higher rates of feminine participation in government are related to lower levels of corruption.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ 5.2 RESEARCH QUESTION 2 WHY DO WOMEN NEED SPECIAL RIGHTS The measurements of the GDI and GEM show that womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s power, opportunities and quality of life are lesser than those of men. Globally 2 out of 3 illiterate individuals are women. In 1995, 24.5 percent of women didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t go to college, compared with 16.4 percent of boys. In South Asia, particularly in Pakistan, things are worse: there the school requirements or enrolment of girls is 50 percent less than that of boys. Of the 1.2 billion people in the world living in extreme financial condition, 70 percent are women. As a result, womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s health condition is worse. Violence against women is another specific problem; particularly within the private or fami ly setting. Statistics say that each 9 seconds a woman is desecrated by her boyfriend or husband in the United States. In India around 10.000 female newborns are killed once a year due to the fact that their parents cannot afford the dower. There are a number of explanations why women want special rights and everybody ought to begin to fight for womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s rights. Political rights and political participation are one facet of womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s empowerment and increasing womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s life quality. To place it the other way round, a redoubled life quality can empower more women to participate in politics. 5.3 REFLECTION This Thesis had truely made me to remember the lack of participation in politics of women all round the world. During this context, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Participation,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ from the Latin participatio, means collaborating. In otherwords it could be understood as taking part, as well as giving part. Political participation c ontains all actions of individuals to influence the political system at the native, regional, national or international level. Participation may well be standard (in political parties, as voters); unconventional (in social movements or nongovernmental organizations); legal or banned (non-violent as in demonstrations or direct action, or violent as in terrorism). Generally women donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t participate to the maximum as men. If they participate they use additional non-conventional ways. Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re more engaged in social movements and non-governmental organizations than in administration, legislature or diplomatic parties. Political participation also can be measured by means of that of political illustration. Representation implies that de-jure authorised citizens ought to be elected to the parliament and form the government. Usually, the parliament ought to be a mirror of the society. All groups should be represented equally. In Nigeria, the area which provides great concern as shown by this thesis is that the political representation of females. Women are underrepresented in practically all political decision-making bodies. Only 9% of those who stood for election in Nigerias April 2011 National Assembly elections were females. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s out of the 360 members of the House of Representatives, only 25 are women, that is 6% compared to that of the African average of 19%. The dearth of women in decision-making positions could also be another explanation for Nigerias low investment in sectors that are crucial to human successful end result, like health and education While in Croatia as well, within the course of Croatiaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s transformational democracy, womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s role is re-traditionalised from the worker-mother to the mother-worker. The mother-worker is inspired to support the present states objectives and womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s primary responsibility is in caring and building her family. Womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s role as mother and caregiver is placed high on the stateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s agenda and womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s work outside of the house is predicted, by the state to require a secondary position. Because the stateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s establishment transforms, the constancy that continues to be is that of the presence of a patriarchal society. 6.0 CHAPTER SIX 6.1 CONCLUSION This research work has been carried out so as to assess the method women have been disregarded in respect of political participation. Women, all over the globe hold a minority position politically that has since been a troubling issue for women. This minority role in virtually everything most especially in political arena, has led to the cry out for Gender Equality between men and women all over the world. Which l hope would be achieved,if not totally but at least in vital decision making positions. This Research work has been divided into six parts: The first part ,which is Chapter one, contains the Introduction,Background and also the Structure of the research work The second part ,which is Chapter two, is the review of the relevant literature The third part mentioned the methodology adopted for research The fourth part dealt with the presentation of reports of Inequality in women in both Croatia and Nigeria The fifth part was concentrated on the Analysis of the Reports and finally The sixth and last chapter is the Conclusion and Recommendation. 6.2 RECOMMENDATION Even though womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s political participation and representation is not democratic. The causality of the power gap between women and men is incredibly difficult to clarify. There are countless reasons for female under-representation: family background, cultural and non-secular background, gender identity, education, age, job, income, and time budget, all of these reasons these influence the political career of a woman. All the explanations for under-representation are the results of female oppression as well. Women all over the globe fit into their own special context that is created by their religion, nation, ethnicity and reasonable situation. It is not only gender that defines individuality. There is no general instrument to extend or increase womenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s power in every society. Below are my Recommendations: 1 )The introduced example of quotas may well be one instrument to increase the number of female parliamentarian s. 2) An expanded involvement of women will be helpful to alter peoplesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ minds regarding their fitness to govern. 3) However before that, the political internal efficacy should be trained. Women ought to be trained for political discourses and motivated to speak up for her rights or their political interests. Another vital point is to highlight that the difference between women and men is simply a result of their various behaviours. Men as well as women ought to learn that gender identities belong to history and that it is not the sole option for women to remain at home and take care of children. A better political representation of women will also be helpful to break down this type of stereotypes and reasons for inequality.

More gun, More violence - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1435 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2019/03/20 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Gun Violence Essay Did you like this example? Have you ever wondered if you would ever be able to go out again without worrying about being shot? Nowadays guns are very popular that is why so many shootings have been happening. The guns used in these shootings are also so much easier to get then you would think. Today is the day that our nation will try to stop these mass shootings starting with changing some laws around. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "More gun, More violence" essay for you Create order It is important that the laws on gun violence are changed in order to make communities safer, limit the amount of gun owners, as well as making sure that gun owners have the proper training and permits needed to carry a gun. The first thing that need to be done is making our communitys safe again. This needs to be done because nowadays people are scared to go to certain places. In order to do this a ban needs to be put on all assault rifles. These guns shoot at such a fast rate that it could injure people quickly just like in the Sandy Hook shooting. In the article the author states that about 40% of shootings happen with an assault rifle. The assault rifle is also one of the most popular sold guns in the United States. It has been estimated that about 3.3 million assault rifles were sold between 1986 and 2009. Since there has been so many shootings over the past couple of years a way to stop this is by adding security into school and other places. Some schools may already have good security but it would be better for all schools to have that same privilege. This security consists of metal detectors and a couple of police officers. The metal detectors would be able to detect when someone is bringing a weapon somewhere. Although it is not going to stop all shootings it will definitely do something. Another we can do is have a couple a police officers stay in our schools all day. Doing this would make a safer environment for kids because they know is something were to happen someone would be there to help. This would also make a bigger challenge for the shooter to do something because there are armed police officers inside. Another reason why so many people are getting their hands on guns is because they are not put in cases. Any person that buys a gun from someone should need to buy a case with it so it is not just laying around somewhere where it could be easily found. In the article the author says that about 1.7 million kids live with unlocked guns. Most of these people keep their guns in a closet or some kind cabinet in their bed room. At least with a case your guns will be locked up where people cant easily get them. The author also stated that about 31 percent of shootings may have been prevented if the gun was in a case. Gun safes would work but the only problem is that no one uses them which is why so many kids have their hands on guns. Gun safes might not be the cheapest things there are but they most certainly are very effective especially when used correctly. All of this gun violence that is going on could be stopped by limiting the amount of gun owners. We can limit the amount of gun owners by raising the age to being able to own a gun. The age right now to buy a gun in the United States is around 21 years old. The only problem with this is that if you where to buy a gun from an unlicensed sealer the age would be around 18 years old. The age and should be able to buy a gun at is 25. This is because an adult fully matures around the age of 25 and obviously all the younger adults that have guns are irresponsible. Raising the age might not do a lot but it would most certainly stop some people from owning guns. Since so many people are getting their hands on guns there needs to be a limit on how many they can get. This needs to be done because there is not a law that states how many guns one person could own. A lot of people today own more than one gun which could be very dangerous to us. They could use all of these weapons to hurt a lot of people in a quick way. This is why there needs to be a limit of one to two guns a person can buy. To prove this point we need to look at all of the previous shootings where there was multiple types of bullets found. This proves that in shootings the shooter usually uses more than one gun. This would also be good for limiting the amount of gun owners there are. Over the past couple of years there has been so much ammunition made that there needs to be checks on how much ammo people have. In the United States alone there is about 10 billion bullets manufactured every year. This means that millions even billions of dollars are wasted every year to make ammunition for guns. This would be a great way to see how much ammo someone has because their are way to many people getting away with thousands of bullets. This would definitely help with finding out if something bad was going to happen. In most shootings there is about 1 to 5 thousands rounds of ammunition used. In most states a person is able to buy ammunition without any oversight. Another thing you can do with ammunition checks is keep deadly bullets out of the hands of civilians. All gun owners must have the proper permates and traning to own a gun. Most people are able to get away with not having to do anything to get a gun. This is why we need to have background checks on all gun owners. Some gun owners do already get background check but this is only if you get your gun from a licensed gun dealer. So if you do not get your gun from a licensed gun dealer you will not have any background checks on you. This is called a loop hole because the unlicensed sellers are not required to do background checks. Only about 91 percent of America has background checks on them and the other 9 percent has to have further investigations on them. The investigation on whether they have background checks is only aloud to go on for 3 business days. Which means that most of the time people get away with not having background checks. Something that should have to be done in order to get a gun is proper training. This should be done because not all people know how to use a gun weather they buy it or not. Even some of the school shooters that own guns do not have the proper training that they. This is also good because people can get taught when they really need to use there gun. The only problem with this is that if you buy your gun from an unlicensed dealer you might not get the training you need. Those who buy a handgun are most likely not going to get training compared to those who buy a gun hunting. Around 56 to 58 percent of gun owners actually have the proper training that they need. This means that the other 40 percent of the world does not have any training at all. In order to limit the amount of shootings our country needs to make it harder to buy guns. This means that you have everything done that needs to be in order to buy a gun. The only hard part about this is that in most states you do not need a permit to buy a gun. In some states you do not need anything to buy a gun not even license or registration. This just shows how bad the process to get a gun really is. This is why we need to in force better laws that will make it harder to get a gun Placing restrictions on gun ownership and purchases will assure that guns will not be placed in the wrong hands. Hopefully this will help reduce the amount of gun deaths and injuries in America. Accidental gun deaths and injuries, gun related violence and massive shootings and have all become too comin in the United States. Gun violence has caused and excessive amount of trauma on families and communities, and we need to make these communities safer and make them healthy again.

A Midsummer Nights Dream Struggle of Young Lovers

A Midsummer Nights Dream A Midsummer Nights Dream is romantic comedy which take place in Athens. It is written by William Shakespeare in the 1590s. It is about inlove young people , their dreams and fairies that play extraordinary game with them. In this essay I claim that A Midsummer Nights Dream is comedy. One of the signs of Shakespearean comedy is a struggle of young lovers to overcome the difficulty that is presented by elders. When Hermia does not subserve an order. „Theseus: You must promise to live away from the world of men, in place of religion for the rest of your life. If cannot promise that, you will have to die. Because there are a lot of plots. For example when Puck put the juice in their eyes. Suddenly Lysander loves Helena and Demetrius too. „Lysander: Helena hear my excuse. Demetrius: Yes, if you donnot stop this silly game, I will stop it for you!â€Å" ( Act 3 Monsters and F airies Scene 2 ) After all these signs I think that I well proved that Shakespeare play A Midsummer Nights Dream is a comedy. Gay Adoption - 874 Words

The issue of adoption has caused much controversy in the United States. There are people who are for it and people who are against it. Each side uses many arguments to defend in what they believe. People who believe that gay adoption is bad say that letting homosexuals adopt children is bad for the children and it harms them. According to a study done by Paul and Kirk Cameron, children in 48 out of 52 families being raised by homosexuals experience problems that include hypersexuality, instability, molestation, and domestic violence. There are also clinical reports of psychiatric disturbances of children with homosexual parents. In 1996 the U.S government did a sex survey. People who agree with gay and lesbian adoption have done many studies to prove that it does not harm kids. The American Psychology Association says â€Å"no scientific evidence that parenting effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation: lesbian and gay parents are as likely as heterosexual parents to provide supportive and health environments for their children.† There has also been research gathered by experts such as F.W Bozett, and R.L Barrett that says there is no difference between homosexual and heterosexual fathers in providing recreation, encouraging autonomy, maintaining disciplinary guidelines, or dealing with general problems of parenting. Other experts such as D.K Flaks and S. Jason Dorrant is 12 years old and something of a misfit. Quiet and shy, he is more comfortable around younger children than around his peers. For this reason, he is considered â€Å"slow† by people in his town. We will write a custom essay sample on The Rag and Bore Shop or any similar topic only for you Order Now Jason has some friends, but they tend to be little kids like his 7–year–old pal Alicia Bartlett. THE RAG AND BONE SHOP reveals what happens after Alicia is discovered dead. It turns out that Jason had visited Alicia the day of her death. Jason wants to do all he can to help the police catch her killer. He agrees to tell them everything he knows. The police, meanwhile, suspect that Jason is the killer. They turn to a man named Mr. Trent who specializes in interrogation. Trent has never failed to get a criminal to confess. He is especially motivated in this case — a senator with an interest in Alicia’s murder has promised to help his career if he gets a confession. A good portion of the book takes place in a small, hot, windowless room — the interrogation room. Cormier describes it in enough detail to make the reader as uncomfortable as Jason is while he is being questioned. The way Trent works is also detailed — first he does everything he can to gain Jason’s trust, then Trent tries to persuade him to confess to killing his young friend. At the same time, Jason struggles to understand both what Trent wants from him and what he remembers about Alicia’s last day alive.Cormier moved smoothly between the two characters’ points of view, building suspense and driving the story to its powerful conclusion. Although the book is very nearly flawless, it may be one chapter too long. The final chapter concerns the aftermath of Jason’s experience with Trent. It wraps up the book with a shocking surprise, but it also seems a bit unrealistic, taking a believable story and stretching our ability to believe it a little too far. The chapter is unnecessary due to the excellent job Cormier did describing Jason late in the book. How to cite The Rag and Bore Shop, Papers

Misused Quotation Marks are “Bad”

MISUSED QUOTATION MARKS ARE â€Å"BAD† When it comes to writing, there are dozens of rules just begging to be broken. Some are flexible and give you a little wiggle room like hyphenation or deciding whether to use the comma before the â€Å"and† in lists. But there are other grammar rules that you just don’t break. You don’t tweak them; you don’t adjust them to suit your personal preferences. Ever. Case in point? Quotation marks. Somehow people got the idea that quotation marks are like the Swiss Army knife of punctuation: useful in any situation and interchangeable with exclamation points, bolding, underlining, italics, or ALL-CAPS SCREAMING. Others use them as what I can only assume is decoration, sticking them into sentences and paragraphs at random because they look sorta pretty – the adult version of dotting your i’s with little hearts or big bubbles. Sadly, misused quotation marks, pretty or otherwise, just make you look less credible. It’s the same as having a website full of typos and broken links. Or spelling your CEO’s name wrong in the company newsletter. (Well, maybe not that bad – you probably won’t get fired for overzealous quotation mark use. But still, it’s bad.) The Do’s and Don’ts of Quotes Not sure when quotation marks are appropriate? Here are the basics. DO:†¢ Use quotation marks when you are quoting someone’s exact words. (â€Å"Don’t blame me,† she said. â€Å"I just work here.†) †¢ Use quotation marks when you are quoting someone’s writing. (In his review, the critic wrote that Fat Momma’s House 5 was â€Å"a visually stunning masterpiece, worthy of an Oscar.†) †¢ Use quotation marks when you’re being sarcastic. (My â€Å"best friend† stole my boyfriend, my car, and my favorite pair of argyle socks.) DON’T: †¢ Use quotation marks when other parts of the sentence already tell the reader you’re being sarcastic. (My so-called â€Å"best friend† stole my boyfriend, my car, and my favorite pair of argyle socks.) †¢ Use quotation marks when you’re paraphrasing someone’s words (She told me â€Å"not to blame her, she just worked there.†) †¢ Use quotation marks when you want to emphasize a word. More often than not, random quotation marks sound unintentionally sarcastic. For example: †¢ All â€Å"fried chicken† dinners half off. †¢ This offer is good for a limited time â€Å"only.† †¢ Our team of â€Å"professionals† offers full-service IT solutions. †¢ I was â€Å"literally† on the edge of my seat. †¢ Open â€Å"24 hours.† A good proofreading job is the best defense against misused quotation marks and other grammatical blunders. If punctuation isn’t exactly your thing have a friend look it over and edit it. Need a second opinion? Post your quotation-mark questions here, and we’ll be happy to give you our â€Å"professional† opinion.

Conductor Investigation Experiment Lab-Report Essays

Conductor Investigation Experiment Lab-Report Essays Conductor Investigation Experiment Lab-Report Paper Conductor Investigation Experiment Lab-Report Paper Conductor Investigation Experiment Labret Introduction This experiment is about to test how will the monochrome wire effect the ampere of the electric current. All the possible factor that will effect to the volt of the current The Length of the wire The Diameter of the wire Temperature Magnetism Aim To determine the effect of the length of the wire on the ampere of the electric current. Hypothesis Monochrome is an alloy(a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements) that is made out of 80% nickel and 20% chromium. I know that it is a resistant material that will slow electric current down, therefore, it will produce heat and some light. I think that the more monochrome wire that we use the ampere will be lower, I think that is because the longer the wire is, the more electricity that the wire will slow down. Apparatus Power Supply Wires (Leads) Alligator Clips Ammeter Monochrome Wire (20 Gauge)-(different length) (2 CM, 4 CM, 6 CM, 8 CM, 10 CM) Method 1 . Set up the power supply. 2. Connect the ammeter and the monochrome wire. Cut 5 different length of wire . 4. They all need to be 10 CM long. 5. Test the different length of the wires. 6. Record the results. I will measure the ampere that is shown on the ammeter Fair Testing Controlled variable :The same voltage from the power supply, same wires, alligator clips, ammeter. Independent variable : The length of the monochrome wire. Dependent variable: The ampere of the current. This is a fair test because there is only one thing that is diff erent in the experiment, which is the length of the chrome wire. When there is no monochrome wire in the circuit, it measures AAA when it is connected to a 2 CM wire, the amperes decreased to 3. AAA, when it is connected to a 10 CM wire, the amperes is AAA. That shows the length of the wire does effect the ampere of the circuit. The data above supported my hypothesis. I think this test is reliable, because it is a fair test, to make it more reliable, I can do mere trials to proof my results, When the monochrome wire is used, it will shows down the current and reduce heat and some light, therefore, the ampere will be lower. Evaluation The possible errors are the length of the wires are not measured correctly, because some of the monochrome wires are bended when we got it, it is vary hard to measure the length of the wire when it is bended. I can improve that by using new wires for the experiment. There are also not enough trials of this test, if there are more trials, the test will become more accreted. The further work can be also measuring the voltage and see if there are anything different.

Week Two Discussion Questons and Participation Questions Essay

Week Two Discussion Questons and Participation Questions - Essay Example Ironically Toyota prior to the scandal had one of the best quality track records in the industry. Legal risks can be minimized by including clauses in the sales contract of new vehicles that document how long a warranty lasts. Regulatory agencies can have a major impact on the everyday operations of an enterprise. A regulatory agency that oversees all manufacturing operations in America is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The mission of EPA is to protect human health and to protect the environment. One of the laws EPA enforces is the Clean Air Act. The Clean Air Act regulates air emissions from stationary and mobile sources (EPA, 2010). Due to the rigorous environmental standard in the United States certain multinational corporations preferred to establish subsidiaries in foreign location where the environmental laws are softer. This strategy can be used to evade environmental policies. Another environmental law that the EPA regulates is the Safe Drinking Water Act. This Act protects the quality of the water US citizens consume. In poor underdeveloped countries such as the nations located in the Sub-Saharan desert there is major water scarcity and the quality of the water is extremely poor. The existence of regulatory agencies such as the EPA protects the quality of life of the people. In your discussion you mentioned that some corporations are able to evade environmental laws by moving to locations outside the United States. I believe this practice is unethical because these companies know that they are hurting the environment with polluting agents. A way to stop this practice is for the United Nations to create a global environmental agency to oversee the activity of corporations. This way companies will have to adapt to the global laws which should help lower air, soil, and water pollution. Within your responses you mentioned that a way to deal with product liabilities is to establish warranty protocols. For example in the
